The Pennsylvania Heartland Unit of The Herb Society of America, a group dedicated to the purpose of studying and actively sharing horticulture history, and the use of herbs, is pleased to offering 2 scholarships this year. The Unit will be awarding its $1,500.00 annual scholarship and the family of a past member of our unit has formed a memorial scholarship in her memory as well. The Linda Rider Memorial scholarship will be $1,000.00. These scholarships will be awarded to a student active within the study of horticulture. It will be awarded to a student living in the Heartland area, which includes: Berks, Montgomery, York, Lancaster and Schuylkill counties. The applicant must be a third or fourth year student within the study of horticulture.
The criteria for the scholarship are as follows:
1. Home residence must be in Berks, Montgomery, York, Lancaster, or Schuylkill counties.
2. Junior or senior full time horticulture student, or second year of an associate degree program in horticulture.
3. Two references: one advisor or professor, and one person of student’s choice.
It is the applicant’s responsibility to send in the references with application.
4. An official school transcript must be sent with the application.
5. Essay: Why did you choose the field of horticulture and what do you plan to do with your education in the future?
6. If no qualified undergraduates apply, consideration will be given to a full time graduate student.
7. Applicants may reapply the following year.
All applications must be received by April 1, 2009.

established a memorial scholarship in her name.
